Frank spent most of his younger life in Canada where he became involved with Field Sports. He was a keen shooter as a young man and his shooting companion was a rescue dog that was a Cocker / Alsatian cross. Frank trained the dog himself and enjoyed many years of sport with his “mongrel dog”. He returned to the UK in the late 1970’s and began shooting again in the mid 1980’s.
It soon became apparent that he needed a new shooting companion and as such he purchased a English Springer Spaniel in the early 90’s. Frank so enjoyed the thrill of working his spaniel, that the act of shooting became secondary to training and working his dog. He then acquired another Springer, that had been sired by his dog. He trained that bitch and started his Field competition life with her, gaining Field Trial awards and winning Gundog Working Tests with her.
Frank was so impressed by the loyalty, stamina and intelligence of this loving, yet hard-working dogs, that he soon began the process of building up a line of award-winning spaniels. Frank so enjoyed the thrill of working his spaniels, that the act of shooting became secondary to training and working his dogs.
Over the years that followed Frank managed to become the first handler/ trainer to win Field Trials with 3 different spaniel breeds. Frank is currently the only handler / trainer in the UK to have completed this feat. He has also trained and successfully campaigned the top UK working Clumber Spaniel bitch “Flintwood Snowflake Macgiriaght”, the only bitch in living history to have won 2 Field Trials !
Frank is an experienced handler and trainer. He works his dogs on shoots as a picking up team, shoots over them himself and competes in working/field events all over the UK.
He is also an experienced adult educator who is professionally qualified as a trainer / instructor in the UK Police Service.
Frank is a UK Kennel Club Panel Judge for spaniels. He has judged Field Trials, Gun Dog Working Tests and is also an assessor for the UK Kennel Club Gundog Working Certificate. He is also a UK Kennel Club Accredited breeder and has achieved all three possible accolades from the Kennel Club under this scheme. He is an Associate Member of the Kennel Club and a member of the UK Kennel Club Accredited Instructor Scheme.
